The Problems With Modi

With this new wave of politics emerging, catching the public storm in Delhi, and then fizzing out to come stronger in the National Elections - I feel that I, an Aam Aadmi (without having any political affiliations on my CV), should be more than welcome to express my views.

The whole nation witnessed an enraged social activist who promised to change everything wrong with our political system, and the broom finally made it big in the state of Delhi by actually joining hands with the 'dirt' it claimed to remove. A list of promises that was longer than the list of items we ask our NRI relatives to bring, with self-defined deadlines was declared in uppercase characters. From "We will do it in 10 days", to "Such things take time", to "There is a system for everything", to "There are forces who wont let us", to "What have our predecessors done ?" - each promise saw through all these phases across daily press conferences. Amidst all that, there was a dharna held by the CM as well.

Anyways, coming back to the title - we're seeing each political party having its own methods of campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections coming up. Some are filing FIRs against industrialists as a measure to show they're the only ones fighting corruption, some are spending crores on PR and Image denting after all the scams, and some are conducting frantic rallies. The reigning unit is yet to declare it's PM Candidate (and everyone has no clue who it might be! do you? ), the ex-Delhi CM being as confused as ever and the third front is an option that is as unpredictable as Rohit Sharma's career. Leaving only one man to talk about in terms of a potential PM.

But as they say, no path is a smooth walk in politics, there are a few aspects in which NaMo might not be as competent as his counterparts, and here are a few of them:

  1. He hasn't yet staged a dharna in the build up for the elections - That's become a prerequisite, right? 12 years as CM and still 0 on that account. Somebody took just a few days.
  2. He hasn't yet publicly torn an ordinance passed by the PM - 'This is absolute nonsense!'
  3. He speaks about the economic policies to be put in place rather than promising a reduction in the auto-rickshaw rates by 5.43% - How boring ! *yawn*
  4. Not a single mention of the number of subsidised LPG Cylinders he'll provide. - Really ? Now how could the people chose a PM like that ?
  5. He hasn't yet given a comic interview to Arnab - A true artist is one who can make a joke of himself. Unfortunately, NaMo is no where near that level. And yeah, women empowerment (that doesn't make sense here, like it didn't make any on TV).
  6. He hasn't incited the public to file an FIR against anyone - Especially after filing a 370-page-proof FIR against someone and then asking the Opposition to provide evidence after collaboration.
  7. And most importantly, he speaks more in a rally than the PM has spoken publicly in two tenures - How dare he?

And Then There Was Windows 8 ...

Just needed a breakthrough reason to be able to find time again for blogging, and Microsoft gave it to me a month ago. The all new Windows 8 Pro, driven by the revolutionary Metro Interface, is a no pushover OS. Evidently, its a result of those years of silent planning and development while the world was going crazy for the iOS over the last decade.

When it comes to the ease of use and the effective corner-navigation shortcuts, it definitely spells productivity out - large and clear. The apps, however, would require some time to build up some noticeable base in terms of the number available in the Windows Store, but the ones available right now don't disappoint you at all. Tweetro (Lazy Worms Applications) and Be A Martian (NASA) are a couple of must-have third party apps, along with XBox Music, Bing Maps, Finance and SkyDrive from Microsoft being the ones you wont be able to ignore.

So, give it a try and lay your hands on this amazing product today with the easy upgrade options for all Windows 7 users, or the direct install option for all others.

Have fun!

Here's Something We're Best At ...

Ours is a great, great country ... And I'm not being sarcastic on this one, I really mean it ... If there was ever a global award for hospitality, we'd have no competition at all ...

You don't believe me ? With this you will - The Maharashtra Government has spent Rs. 16 Crores on Ajmal Kasab till date ... And without any doubts, the moolah ain't from any Kasab-Relief Fund or something, its the taxpayer's money ...

A person, who amazes everyone for just being alive till now, given the status of the "Most Secure Person" in the country along with this Biryani treatment, it all just adds to the frustration of the already angry citizens ...

Ask yourself, would he have been treated the same way if he had been caught in the US for 9/11 ? Or in Spain for the Madrid bombings ? Or in the UK for the London attacks ? So, here's a small little letter I wrote a few weeks ago, which stands pretty strongly in the current context:

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

As you should be knowing, but have seem to have forgotten, there is a thing that exists by the name of basic human behaviour. I deem it necessary to spread the message to enlighten you, and everyone around about it.

Suppose in a classroom, a student misbehaves with the faculty and the fellow students, and is caught. The teacher, instead of punishing him, gives him a sweet for his act. No rocket science knowledge is required to predict what will happen next day - 10 more students will repeat the crime. They know they won't be punished, rather, will receive the sweet too.

Oh, so you already knew ? Then would you kindly care to explain where lies the difference between that classroom and our nation, that notorious student and Ajmal Kasab, that faculty and our legal enforcements, those 10 students and the terrorists who attacked us post 26/11 ?

I'd love it if any of my able friends correct me if I was wrong ...

There's A Lesson At Each Step ...

Back, after probably my biggest absence from Blogger ... Sorry folks, a lot had been going on ... Will try to share all the scoop of the missing year as much as I can :) ... For now, here's something for all of us ... We know what failure and successes are, but sometimes don't realise that both of them are equally important for us. Eventually - our basic aim in life is to keep on raising our own bar ...

A failure is a failure only if you don't improve yourself after it ... Today, I can proudly say - I've failed without a regret; and gained without a doubt ...

20 years after being told I wouldn't survive, I'm living and still breathing ...

6 years after failing miserably in the pre-boards of Class XII, I have completed my graduation and post graduation tenures with Merit-Scholarship ...

A year after being left stranded without any answers, I now have the strength to smile over the good times ...

3 months after being rejected by a top-notch Japanese IT-House, I have successfully set up a firm with one of the most amazing persons I've come across ...

Always remember, success is not determined by the heights you scale, it is more of a measure of how high you can bounce after hitting level-zero ...

So, before you write-off failures or over-rate successes, just give a thought to what you've learnt from them ... Take care ...

The Missing Answers ? Or Questions ?

Have you ever had that awkward moment in life, when all you want to do is to have a chat with someone who would listen, and the ones that always spontaneously pop up into your mind are all busy, coincidentally at that same moment of time, and all you can do is stare at your contacts list ? Funny, right ?

Or the moment when you don't want to say NO to your friends, but have to, for a reason that's difficult to explain to them ? And sometimes even for a reason that you can't really figure out yourself ...

We all have a set of wonderful friends, friends that can seriously do anything for you ... But you'll always have a share of those times they don't understand a bit of what you say and do, and seem to be complete strangers when it comes to your feelings about someone you love ... And its none of their fault ...

There are times when we're lost for answers, and there are times when we're even lost for questions ... You feel bad, and you don't really know why ... You're hurt, and you don't know how ...

We all hate being misunderstood, but do we realise how assumptive we sometimes become of others' behaviours ?

A simple pause in life, just to re-group your thoughts, is required in such situations ... Nothing's wrong, nothing's changed ... The people are good, life is good, everything is gonna be just perfect ... If they hurt you, its probably they didn't understand - make them understand ... If they still don't, move on, it was never the biggest obstacle of your life ...

Always remember, you always have YOU for company ... And yeah, try to avoid falling into a relationship with your best friend ... The lost friendship sometimes hurts more than the lost love ...

Re-Evolution ...

The times came, the times passed and the times are now history ...

Being human, and not a stone, I won't say its something that's not affected me ... And being mature, thanks to some of the wonderful people I have around me in my life, I take pride in admitting that its affected me AND made me a better, stronger person ...

I've just about set on course to being normal at the moment ... No regrets, not angry ... Infact really happy to again be the same un-dominated, carefree me that I was until about a few torrid months ago ...

I'm pretty sure if I wake up 5, 10, or 15 years later with the question whether we were meant to be - my answer would be a clear NO ... Not too sure if you'd be that clear ;) ...

The rough has passed, the whole green is waiting ... :)

And it starts to rain, just as I wrote the last line ... I can sense someone's smiling up there :D

I Owe It To My Mom ...

For years I badgered my mother with questions about whether Santa Claus is a real person or not. Her answer was always, “Well, you asked for the presents and they came, didn’t they?” I finally understood the full meaning of her reply when I heard the definition of a virtual device: “A software or hardware entity which responds to commands in a manner indistinguishable from the real device.” Mother was telling me that Santa Claus is a virtual person (simulated by loving parents) who responds to requests from children in a manner indistinguishable from the real saint.

Mother also taught the IF … THEN … ELSE structure: “If it’s raining, then put your boots on before you go to school; otherwise just wear your shoes.”

Mother explained the difference between batch and transaction processing: “We’ll wash the white clothes when we get enough of them to make a load, but we’ll wash these socks out right now by hand because you’ll need them for this evening's outing.”

Mother taught me about linked lists. Once, for a birthday party, she laid out a treasure hunt of ten hidden clues, with each clue telling where to find the next one, and the last one leading to the treasure. She then gave us the first clue.

Mother understood about parity errors. When she counted socks after doing the laundry, she expected to find an even number and groaned when only one sock of a pair emerged from the washing machine. Later she applied the principles of redundancy engineering to this problem by buying our socks three identical pairs at a time. This greatly increased the odds of being able to come up with at least one matching pair.

Mother used flags to help her manage the housework. Whenever she turned on the stove, she put a pot-holder on top of her purse to remind herself to turn it off again before leaving the house.

Mother knew about devices which raise an interrupt signals to be serviced when they have completed any operation. She had a whistling tea kettle.

Mother understood about LIFO ordering (Last In – First Out). In my lunch bag she put the cake/dessert on the bottom, the food in the middle, and the napkin on top so that things would come out in the right order at lunchtime.

There is an old story that God knew He couldn’t be physically present everywhere at once, to show His love for His people, and so He created mothers. That is the difference between centralized and distributed processing.

As any kid who’s ever misbehaved at a neighbor’s house finds out, all the mothers in the neighborhood talk to each other. That’s a local area network of distributed processors that can’t be beat.

Mom, you were the best computer teacher I ever had ... :)

Mistake ? Or a lesson ... ?

Have you even been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up.

You build up all these defences. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life ...

You give them a piece of you. They don't ask for it. They do something dumb one day like smile at you, or kiss you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like "maybe we should just be friends" or "how very perceptive" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart.

It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-y
ou-apart pain. I hate love ...

DISCLAIMER :
(guys please don't be dumb enough to think i wrote this of my own bad experience or something ... was just getting bored - wanted to write something and yeah, i'm good at fiction, that's all i can say, the smart ones can figure it out anyways ... )

The Camp, The Fest and The rAnDoM Stuff ...

Welcome all !!! Hope its been a good October for all of you ... The onset of winters is here, YIPPEEE !!! :) And sorry again for not being able to blog for so many days ... Tied up with some work for the couple of weeks (lol, work and me don't sound good together, do they ? :P) ... Naah but seriously, there's this military camp we're supposed to go this Sunday and then the 'mentos khaao, dimaag ki batti jalaao' thing also happened with me, reminding me to start the preparations of Cybus early this year ...

Talking about the military camp, its seriously true to its name ;) ... A week we'll be living like soldiers-under-training doing (or rather FORCED to do) what they do ... Waking up at 5, doing rounds in the cold, trekking, rock climbing, mud-crawling, hurdles, camping, shooting, paragliding, etc etc ... I've heard the food's good though :P ...

And yeah, my baby's back !!! Nooo ... Its Cybus I'm talking about :P ... After organizing 2 good editions, I'm really looking forward to take this one a step or two ahead ... Got a real good bunch of people with me to make it possible, will surely miss rAnDoM :( ... Seeking inputs from Debesss, KG, Naman and Mann for a better show :) ... Just finished preparing the hierarchy of management and the list of students in each committee ... Still not circled in on the name of this edition ... After "Cybus 08 and 09", "Cybus 10" doesn't sound good ... Neither does "Cybus 2010" ... I was seriously impressed with my thought of "Cybus X" ... Any suggestions/comments ? They're most welcome :) ...

Classes going on fine (for everyone else :P) ... Hardly attend any these days coz of all this running around, being Riteek Arora is really paying off now in terms of attendance ;) ... And yeah, I'm still hooked to those songs I mentioned in the previous post, they're really very good :) ...

Will catch you all in a while after my camp ... Wait for the reviews and the pics ;) ...

Take care ... Buhbyeee :) ...

Hockey, Late Evenings, Etc ...

October 10, Noida : AIIT displayed a dismal performance against ASB in the Men's Hockey Semi-Final in Sangathan losing by a margin this article doesnt have enough space to write. The AIIT players were McConfused, McOut-Ran and McOut-Played by their counter-parts. After what had been a good tournament so far, it now seems they'll be subjected to another defeat in the 3rd place play-off against ASCS later this evening.
Ohhh wait, stop the press - What is this we're hearing ? AIIT is leading ??? You guys sure ??? Scored another ???

Ok enough of this news-reporting nonsense :P ... Just won the bronze medal in Hockey Tournie @ Sangathan ... Pretty excited (as always when any accomplishment comes my way that is NOT counter-strike :D) and looking forward to the 24th to actually receive the medal ;) ... To be honest, I ain't any Dhyan Chand or Dhanraj Pillai ... And neither can I be THAT good ... And probably I wasn't even the best player of my team ... Its just that I wanted to contribute my bit for the department as I've always been doing in whatever way I can ... So after valuable suggestions from some people, I've decided not to bother about the rubbishes said by a few ... NO NO NO, I wont let that spoil my Moment-Of-Joy :P ...

Apart from the hockey matches nothing significant (they didnt leave time for anything else :D) ...
Given me a paining back, cramped legs along with the bronze ;) ... Enjoying the evenings in the campus these days ... Fun (and shocking !) to see the empty underground parking when I stay back till late :) ... Hoping to switch back the focus onto CS quickly after I recover ...

And yeah, watched Wake Up Sid ... Really impressed by Ranbir and Konkana's talents ... Both of them really fit into their roles well ... Waiting eagerly for this Friday to catch BLUE ...

Buhbyee for now ...

Take care ...

p.s. - have a hear of shafqat's version of tum mile and the songs 'tu jaane na' and 'tera hone laga hu' from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani ... really awesome tracks ... wondering why does emraan hashmi get so many wonderful music compositions to his name !!!

Story Time

Heyylo Readers !!! I'm in the mood for a story today ... Its a story about a boy - "HE" and a girl - "SHE" (how I wish i interchanged the names to make it confusing ;) ) ... Aahhhh and for those who're still wondering what's wrong with Voldey ... Voldey and Stories ??? Chuck this post and come back later for 'normal' posts ;) ...

So, it's about a day when HE was sitting with his 'certain' set of friends discussing about the joys of being single and how HE managed to convince himself that this was the way he'll be for some time to come ... And suddenly HE is poked by his friend ... His friend tells him to turn around ... HE turns around and see's SHE amongst a pretty large group of people (needless to say, spotting SHE wasn't tough at all :) :) :) ) ...

SHE comes up to HE ... All HE is doing is looking at her ... SHE asks HE where the venue for a 'certain' event was ... Still, all HE is doing is looking at her ... Gaining some senses, HE manages to speak ... HE says - "Ummmmm ... Uhhhhhhh ... No Idea ...." even though HE had sent a million people to the venue right before all this ... The spectators around HE have a good laugh there and then ... One of them shouts out the correct venue ... HE is still trying to gain ALL of his senses to come to terms of what had just happened ...

Now, HE is haunted of that incident ... HE's first impression that went horribly wrong , or did it ? It's actually a situation that could be seen either way (HE hopes so !!!) ... HE thinks it good ... As far as the author (MEEEEEEE) goes, I think HE screwed up bigtime ... Any helpful comments ? ;) ...

Take Care guys ... Including HE, if you're reading this ;) ...

Ciaaaao !!! :D

The Master's !!!

Woaah !!! These exiles from blogging are increasing (much to the relief of some of you, who are spared months together from reading my junk ;) ). As you all know, if you all dislike something, I'm bound to DO IT !!! :P Lol ... :)

Now, seriously, missed writing ... Was shocked when I signed in today and saw the last post was dated back in June ... Blame it on my PG venture ... Dunno what I was thinking when I opted to sign up for this ... I mean, out of all the places - HERE ???

Not being mean to anyone, things kept changing ... For instance, a few of my old mates doing the same course (+) ... then being told the number of working hours in the sem (-) ... then meeting the new classmates (-) ... but after talking to them after they settled down a bit (+) ... then seeing the true faces of some (- - - - -) ... :P ...

But all in all, some really nice people to be with ... A few good clan-mates too (this one's specially for you zee :) ) ... I hope a clan close to (yes, close to) rAnDoM's stature can be formed ... And classes, namesake ... when I'm out, I'm out ... when I'm in, I'm threatened to be thrown out :P ... So, you can pretty much judge that :) ...

Got to rush for dinner now ... Will surely blog soon again ... Hoping no vacations from blogging come around now ... ;) ...

Catch you all later, take care ....

Bon-Nuit !!!

p.s. - yeah, I'm learning french now !!!! finally kicked german out of my student life now after studying it for 10 years :P ...

so now its Monsieur Riteek (instead of Herr Riteek) signing off !!! ;)

If Restaurants Functioned Like Microsoft ...

Lolllz ... No matter how much I support Unix, I always thought I'll never make fun of the company who's product's I've been using ever since I knew what a computer was ... But this one's too good not to be put up here ... enjoy ... :)

Patron: Waiter!

Waiter: Hi, my name is Bill, and I'll be your Support Waiter. What seems to be the problem?

Patron: There's a fly in my soup!

Waiter: Try again, maybe the fly won't be there this time.

Patron: No, it's still there.

Waiter: Maybe it's the way you're using the soup; try eating it with a fork instead.

Patron: Even when I use the fork, the fly is still there.

Waiter: Maybe the soup is incompatible with the bowl; what kind of bowl are you using?

Patron: A SOUP bowl!

Waiter: Hmmm, that should work. Maybe it's a configuration problem; how was the bowl set up?

Patron: You brought it to me on a saucer; what has that to do with the fly in my soup?!

Waiter: Can you remember everything you did before you noticed the fly in your soup?

Patron: I sat down and ordered the Soup of the Day!

Waiter: Have you considered upgrading to the latest Soup of the Day?

Patron: You have more than one Soup of the Day each day??

Waiter: Yes, the Soup of the Day is changed every hour.

Patron: Well, what is the Soup of the Day now?

Waiter: The current Soup of the Day is tomato.

Patron: Fine. Bring me the tomato soup, and the check. I'm running late now.

[waiter leaves and returns with another bowl of soup and the check]

Waiter: Here you are, Sir. The soup and your check.

Patron: This is potato soup.

Waiter: Yes, the tomato soup wasn't ready yet.

Patron: Well, I'm so hungry now, I'll eat anything.

[waiter leaves]

Patron: Waiter! There's a gnat in my soup!

The check:
Soup of the Day . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $5.00
Upgrade to newer Soup of the Day. . . . . . . . $2.50
Access to support . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $1.00

A Walk Down The Graduation Lane

The 3 years of graduation have really flown by when I look back at them now ... Though they really seemed a hell long while they were going on :) ... If school life was *MY* zone, this certainly wasn't anywhere near it ... But I really hold these years high up in my list coz they forced me to think, to adapt and to change myself (for the better, I guess :P) ... Will surely carry forward all the bitter as well as sweet memories from these years ... And yeah, I'd like to offer my apologies to someone who once told me that because of me, that person doesnt want to remember her college life ... Thanks for that lesson too miss Note-Too, that was really the one moment that has made me who I am today ...

Ohhh, this brings me to another important notice ... Due to the violent and aggressive nature of some of my classmates, this post will not take any names ... :) and yeah, I'm putting the disclaimer towards the top, coz I know some ppl will get mad enough, and not reach the bottom ever :P ...

Disclaimer
All the characters and incidents mentioned in this piece of text are purely fictitious and resemblance to any living person is to be considered coincidental ... (As far as it goes for those who can link anything to someone, I'm sure you'll enjoy this post :P)

So, to begin with, it all started by bunking a healthy bit of the orientation and the entire havan ceremony that was hosted to welcome us freshers ... After all, me considered a fresher at amity ... Does sound a bit funny to believe :) ... Even back then ... :P

The classes in sem-1 were really somethings to look forward to ... That was probably the best set of faculties and subjects I ever had ... Scored a shocking(to me as well) 9.28 which probably cleared the air about who all are actually smart, and who all just float up and dream of being there ... All the ones whom I wanted to do well, actually did ... On the other front, I was just being me - taking some time to know people and to open up ...

Sem-2 brought about a revolution ... Found my place in the whole scene and found a few good friends ... Slowly a 'group' too ... Some fun times followed, but a lil later, some voices became loud and things became really ugly ... It was best to just quietly move away from the reasons and to leave the 'face the problem' part for the correct time ...

Enter sem-3 and welcome isolation ... This was probably the most important phase of life till date .. Nothing to lose, Everything to gain ... A bit boring though, but thats what took me towards CS for the first time ... Missed classes like hell, but the impressions I had made me sit the exams ... Got a shocking(again :P) 7.96 ... Lolllz ... I definitely studied harder than those marks ... :P ...

Sem-4 and I was stung with a new discovery - There is a course with the name B.Sc(IT) that exists in our department :P ... lolllz ... Met loads of people, found great friends ... And ofcourse it was the time that rAnDoM happened :) ... Apart from the rAnDoMs, found a real nice friend in Kaam-Kaaj Ko Maarat (translates to "kill work" :P) too ;) ... Really regretted not having known these people so well before ... And then came Cybus '08 !!! Pure Good Fun !!!

Sem-5 was filled with CS, Bakwaas Talks, and some more Bakwaas Talks, along with some more CS :P ... It was also the time I got back on talking terms with some Lok-Sitaara which was a really surprising event coz I still dont know how it all started ... :) Maybe that msg after the Delhi Blasts did it ...

The final semester was the one closest to my heart ... Cybus '09 gave me some beautiful memories and 2 wonderful friends in Mr. Junior and Ms. Junior Claiming To Be Senior :P loll ... :) It also introduced me to 2 whole new worlds of people around the both of them ... It was seriously lovely to know them all ... :) ... Thanks a lot ... Just finishing up with the exams and the project submissions, we are guests to the Concluding Ceremony hosted in our honour (phew, zyada heavy words use ho gaye kya ? :P) ... An awesome day with some nice multiple photography sessions :P ... (chk out http://sudo.110mb.com for some pics) ... See Kaam-Kaaj Ko-Maarat, I'm advertising your website, send me some commission money :P

The final shot, the final take and the final cut ... This is how the 3 years ended ...

Now for *THE* question ... Will I miss anyone ? Yes ... many, not all though ... But one thing is for sure ... I'll definitely not miss Lok-Sitaara at all ... Lolllz ... and Kaam-Kaaj is staying here for MCA ... Thats probably the best thing I could've asked for ... Would have gone crazy if I had to be with a completely whole new set of people for another 3 years ... :) ...

Feeling really sleepy now ...

More incidents and coded person names if u demand :P ... lolllz

Take Care ...

A Post Out Of Sheer Boredom

The six words at the top say it all ... I (as almost always :P) am getting really bored coz my exams are going on but I'm in no tiny mood to study ... Whenever I open the bundle of notes, all I see are the 3 small topics on the front page, I read them and then somehow I get distracted to proceed to the next page ... So, end result - ask me the applications of multimedia and I can write you a 300 word essay, but ask me anything else and ________________ (no, seriously ... these blanks haven't been put there by mistake, they belong there :) )

Ohhh crappppp, I had thought I wouldn't talk much about exams out here ... But now don't expect me to go all the way up 3-4 lines and select it and press the DEL key ... You know how lazy I am :P ...

By the way, made a delicious bread-chocolate pudding today (for recipes and other cooking tips mail me at riteek.arora.the.chef@gmail.com :P ) ... about 4-5 servings are still stored in the freezer, so u can 'come on over and eat some fun' tomorrow (coz it wont survive after that) ... No, I'm not being paid by crazy noodles for that line ... :) (I hate crazy noodles, the food is sooooooo bland, leave alone putting it, I bet they dont even know what spices are)

Chalo then, its time to end this 'boredom' post (if I write more in THIS post, then it'll defeat my purpose of showing everyone how bored I am :P )

Quite a lot of you might be having exams these days, so all the best for them ...

Catch you all later ...

I'm Back ... :)

Heyyyy ... been a long time guys ... 2 months and a day over to be precise :) ...

Exams going on with huge gaps between them, beneficial to catch up with the IPL ... Awesome first two weeks of cricket ... hoping chennai move up the ladder in the second phase of the tournie ...

I'm back, but since i didnt have any informative content this time, i'm posting some whacky greetings (twisted style) :P ...

have fun ....

I always wanted to have someone to hold, someone to love. And now that you've come into my life...

- I've changed my mind.

I must admit, you brought religion into my life...

- I never believed in Hell until I met you.

As the days go by, I think how lucky I am....

That you're not here to ruin it for me .

Congratulations on your promotion. Before you go....

Will you take the knife from my back? You'll probably need it again.

Happy Birthday! You look great for your age....

Almost lifelike!

When we were together, you said you'd die for me...

- Now we've broken up, I think it's time to keep your promise.

Congratulations on your new bundle of joy....

- Did you ever find out who the father was?

You are such a good friend. If we were on a sinking ship and there was only one life jacket...

- I'd miss you terribly and think of you often .

Your friends and I wanted to do something special for your birthday...

So we're having you put to sleep.

Looking back over the years that we have been together, I can't help but wonder.....

What the hell was I thinking

I'm so miserable without you...

It's almost like you're still here.

Thank you for being part of my life....

I never knew what evil was until I met you!

Congratulations on your wedding day!...

Too bad no one likes your wife.

How can I say this....

Your cooking kills me

Hooray.....

- You're divorced.

I just want you to knowthat I'm sorry for what happened...

- Especially since you survived.

Someday I hope to marry...

Someone other than you.

Congrats on getting married...

It's not everyday you decide to ruin your life.

Happy New Year !!!!

Heyyy everyone, loads of wishes for you and your near ones ... Have a great year ahead... J

I’m a li’l stuck up (as always :P ) ... I’ve somehow got this knack of not being able to judge people according to their statements or behaviour ... And more often than not – it digs up this huge pit for me which i’m not able to avoid in time ... It makes me fall ... But the major problem is, whenever I am getting up, there’s a new bling within sight ... That bling makes me forget the fall I had ... Makes me forget the person who made me fall ... And so, while getting up, I don’t realise that it’s just my illusion and the same things are bound to happen ... I become so f**king ignorant and fall prey to the same damn trap all over again ...

Let’s hope this time it doesn’t happen ... J

Coming up soon with the “rAnDoM Case Generater” and other cool applications ...

Take Care ...

p.s. – Here’s a New Year’s Greeting I received from a friend of mine :

To all my friends who sent me love, prosperity and best wishes for 2008 , it didn’t work ... So please send in hard cash for 2009 ... ;-)

Exams get over and I find myself already burdened with the preparation for my next volley of exams ... Its the same old story as always !!! Don't know why i haven't got used to it yet ... :)

So i've bought myself some nice time off today coz tomorrow's just a practical !!! ;) ... But have to give an extra assignment tomorrow to cover up for the previous marks and the low attendances (i get such oppurtunities being Riteek , you see ?? :D )

Anyways , the TODAY'S FORTUNE tab on my orkut home page shows - " The person who reads your fortune has just been fired. Good luck anyways !!! "

Will catch you guys later with some content-filled posts ...

Till then ,

a. apt-get moo
b. aptitude help
c. aptitude moo
d. aptitude -v moo
e. aptitude -vv moo

THIS IS IT ............................................

5 hours left for the lights to illuminate one final time this year and mark the start of the Brazilian Grand Prix - 2008 which rounds off the wonderful season we've had (and without sounding too reflective on the season - i would want to mention that The Drivers' Championship is still open !!! :D)

20 drivers , 10 constructors , 71 breathtaking laps comprising 306 kms of driving on this beautiful 4.31 km long Sao Paulo Circuit in Brazil ...

This is THAT-KIND-OF day for which F1 lovers reschedule meetings, appointments, dates just to watch the action one final time before a break of nearly 5 months (the next race would be on the 29th of March{WOWW !!!} in Melbourne)

So whatever you do , wherever you are just DONT MISS THIS !!!!!

p.s. Intrepid Ibex ISO/upgrade is available ... Go in for it and grab some cool power-ups with great themes, appearances and a faster interface ... :D

Title Permutations - Final GP weekend of The Season

So this is it ... Here's where it all will end for this year's F1 Championship ... With both of the titles being open still, it could be anyone's guess who'll snatch away the Drivers' Title and the Constructors' Title ...

Here are all the possibilities for the Drivers' Title -

Hamilton will be champion if:
- He finishes fifth or higher
- He finishes sixth and Massa is second or lower
- He finishes seventh and Massa is second or lower
- He finishes eighth and Massa is third or lower
- He fails to score and Massa is third or lower

Massa will be champion if:
- He wins and Hamilton finishes sixth or lower
- He finishes second and Hamilton is eighth or lower

If the pair are tied on points at the end of Sunday afternoon (which would happen is Massa wins with Hamilton sixth, or if Massa finishes second with Hamilton eighth), Massa would win the title by virtue of more victories (six to Hamilton’s five) or more second-place finishes (three to Hamilton’s two).

Going back to what happened last year , when Kimi won the title in the last race ( trailing by 8 points before the start of that race ) - all i can say is - Anything Can Happen...

But whatever you do , DONT MISS THIS RACE !!!!

The Return of The Dark Lord

Heyy ... its so good to be back to writing after almost a month of exile (reasons ???? plenty ... singapore; our national game; debarred lists; presentations; and the end sem assignments ... ) from this place ...

Well to start off, the Singapore trip was great fun ... Enjoyed to the core and saw some pretty cool things and places ... I'll soon paste a link to the web album in my blog ... Met loads and loads and loads of people there and got in contact ...

Even the hockey was great ... We had been training since about a month before the first match and i guess it paid off ... we played H.O.P.E.L.E.S.S.L.Y B.A.D in the first match of the tourney but still won 2-0 against AINT ...
Then we also met the team from ASPESS(omg!omg!omg!) which were unfortunately in our half of the tournie ladder ...
Believe it or not , we played our best game against them (mostly because their coach had told us before the match that they've aimed at scoring 9-10 goals against us) but still lost 2-0 ... :) and see i'm smiling ... They literally demolished every team in the tournie so even 2-0 seems a moral victory for a bunch of players who were playing for the first time ... :)

And then came the much awaited and anticipated news - my name on the debarred list in UNIX ... lolllz ... that almost shocked the whole class but i knew it was bound to be there ... :D
So after an hour of running around to get OD's (for whatever i could get) i think now i'll be in the 'safe' zone ... lolllz ... I dont think i'll be debarred now , coz of the scary thing this command returns - $echo `who am i` ... :P ... Teachers' would fear to debarr this output character stream ...

So ... this was just to tell u that i'm still on blogger, havent left it or sumthing ...

Will return soon with some cool Ubuntu stuff ... and other stuff too for non-geeks ...

Till then ... take care ...

The Singtel Singapore Grand Prix - 2008

Brilliant, Breathtaking, Larger-Than-Imagined experience - SERIOUSLY !!!!!
I'm sure all those who watched the friday practice of the race would agree with me ...

The lights, the roaring engines, and the soaring heat were all there to justify the importance of this race in the history of F1 ... I'd say it really deserves its place on the F1 calendar even before the start of the first race ... :) ... The sight was really amazing ... Roads are awesome ... And the lighting is unbelievable ... Have a look - this really is the mark of the next generation F1 ...

Catch the qualifying session live on Star Sports tonight at 1930 IST ...

This is one of the best preview videos for the race ... Have a look ...

p.s. Also try to hear the song "Caravan" from the movie Hello sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali ... It'll be a real treat for all those who enjoyed his voice in Mitwa and Mora Saiyyaan(Khamaj) ...

Daemon Wallpapoz - Really Useful

While working in Ubuntu , I always wanted all of my workspaces to have some uniqueness or identity over the others to make work easier ... I found this cool application - Daemon Wallpapoz 0.4.1 that works like the webshots application in windows to change the wallpaper after a user-specified time period and also , after a li'l bit of twitching , can provide you different wallpapers for different workspaces ... :)

1. Download the archive from
http://wallpapoz.akbarhome.com/download.html

2. If you dont have the python dependencies in your system as yet, get them through this :
sudo apt-get install python-gnome2 python-imaging python-gtk2
3. Unzip the wallpapoz archive
tar -xzf wallpapoz-0.4.tar.gz
4. Install Wallpapoz
cd wallpapoz-0.4
sudo python setup.py install
5. Open Wallpapoz via Applications->Accessories->Wallpapoz

6. Assign each workspace with a different wallpaper of your choice by clicking the workspace and selecting the "add file" button ...

7. After the assignment , click on restart ...

8. Check out the cool application by changing workspaces ... :)

To configure Wallpapoz to run every time you boot, go to System->Preferences->Sessions ... Add :
Name - daemon_wallpapoz
Command - /usr/local/bin/daemon_wallpapoz

Have Fun , enjoy ...

First-Of-Its-Kind

Woooohoooooooo ... Just a week and a couple of hours over it left for the Singapore Grand Prix ... Some drivers' techniques to prepare for the first ever race under artificial lights plus the added feature of a street circuit, as quoted by formula1.com are -

I am staying up late at night, I am going out to nightclubs, and I’m eating a lot of carrots because they apparently help you to see better in the dark. I will work on the simulator on Monday. You see I’m doing all the preparations that I can possibly do. I will touch down in Singapore Tuesday morning and then I will head for the track. I will walk it, crawl it, will cycle it, have someone take me around it on their back - you name it, I’ll do it! - David Coulthard , Red Bull Racing , GREAT BRITAIN

This will be tough because it means trying to stay awake until 8 am, then sleeping for practically the whole day before starting the engineering and running schedule at around 5 pm. The first night race is very exciting for the sport and I can’t wait to see what conditions the floodlighting will present. It’s going to be quite a challenge but one that I’m looking forward to. - Jensen Button , Honda , GREAT BRITAIN

Nothing dramatic - mostly I am curious. The other day I read the schedule of our team and it said: the drivers may leave the circuit at 3.30 am! Isn’t that crazy? But in the end it is going to be pretty much on European timing, so I think we are going to be quite used to the schedule. To learn the track we use a lot of videos and the simulator. When I arrive I like to walk the track with the engineers, or I take the scooter if I want a little more feeling - like in Valencia, as there were 25 corners, and you could not get a proper feeling with only one lap of walking. I will arrive on Monday, and have two days to spend with my wife in the city, and then most probably I will have a very lively nightlife to get used to the schedule. - Rubens Barichello , Honda , BRAZIL

It will be more than just a motor race, we envsion it to be a national festival, and one that presents many opportunities for participation for everyone, both visitors and Singaporeans alike. - Mr. S Iswaran, Minister of State and Inudustry, Singapore.

Really looking forward to the drivers zoom around areas such as the Marina Bay, Raffles Boulevard , Anderson Bridge and St. Andrews Road ... It's gonna be a challenge for the drivers and teams , but a real memorable experience for the viewers ...

Ubuntu Log-in Screen

Though its pretty unique and a refreshing and welcome change, but Ubuntu also has some scope for improvement in a few areas ... I'll try to guide you all through to twitch and tune your Ubuntu desktops (safely) and give you pleasure-to-work experience out of it ...

Now, I seriously was starting to get bored of the same old peach coloured LogIn everytime I used to boot with Ubuntu ... A little bit of study revealed that the GDM , Desktop Services Manager in Ubuntu is theme-able ... Customized theme packages are just an update away ... :)

1. Go to the terminal and key in :
sudo apt-get install gdm-themes

2. After the package is installed , go to System->Administration->LogIn Window ...

3. Navigate to the "Local" tab and check the theme you would like to use ...

Enjoy ... :D ...
Have fun ....

TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE

For all those who're still wondering what's with that middle name of mine , I'd flash your memories to that instance in The Chamber of Secrets where Tom Riddle magically shifts the letters in his name and re-arranges it to form "I Am Lord Voldemort" ... lolllz ... No, nothing of those sorts in my life ... I'm a Muggle ... :) ...

This brings me to my next BIG interest - Counter Strike ... " VoLdEmOrT " is my counter strike alias or in simple words , i'm better known as Voldemort in the CS World ...

I really didnt have any fascination with Voldemort's character ... Its just that I really liked the name for my alias ... Really unique (a bit scary too ... that helps .. ;) )

Our clan(team) name is "rAnDoM" , and i wont shy in saying we're pretty good now ... :P ...
No , really ... We guys actually won the final of the last fest in Amity ... and doing good in other tournies too ... :) ... WCG is up next week (an entire post can be dedicated to this ... it was to be held in mid-august ... then late-aug ... then early sept ... and blah blah blah ... bottomline - still not held ... :D )

C'mon over sometime and see us all playing on LAN ...
Homes , Cafes , and most importantly Classes ... Actually most of our CS-time is spent in Classes ... Back seat ... extension chords ... keeping NETBEANS or TC or the notes of watevr subject's going on at the touch of an ALT+TAB ... lollllz ... it really works ...

Compiz Effects in Ubuntu

This goes out for all the Ubuntu lovers ...

Have you tried installing the Compiz Settings Manager on your system as yet ? If not , try it out ... It's way too cool over the default effects manager in Ubuntu ...

And its quite easy to set the up ... Here's what you have to do :

1. Install CCSM
Go to the terminal and type in :
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

2. Go to System->Preferences->Advanced Desktop Effects Settings

3. To begin with , enable the Desktop Cube, Rotate Cube and Cube Caps plugins.

4. You can also try your hands with all the other effects given towards the bottom of the Settings window ...

Make your Ubuntu work a li'l more exciting with these effects ... :) ...
Enjoy ...

p.s. - The desktop cube described above works only if there are 3 or more workspaces ... For less than 3 workspaces , it only shows a desktop sheet which is quite logically correct ... :)
To activate the "cube" , increase the number of workspaces depending on the faces of the "cube" u need ...
This can be done using the workspaces tab towards the left bottom of your ubuntu desktop (next to the trash icon) ... Right click and enter preferences ...
Select the no. of workspaces by incrementing the columns part ... leave the rows intact ... Now check the cube effect with CTRL+ALT+MouseButton1 ... :)

The Santander Italian Grand Prix

Monza , as always , fills the weekend up with loads of surprises in store for us year after year ....

" The rain that has been such a feature of the Monza weekend continued to wreak havoc on both practice and qualifying on Saturday, and left some star names in embarrassingly low grid positions as one of the sport’s underdog teams came good. " - www.formula1.com

Sebastien Vettel (GER) , became the youngest man in F1 history to be on he pole position for a Grand Prix. Kimi and Lewis , the two competitors for the world championship didnt even qualify for the Q3 , and are sitting on 14th and 15th positions on the grid , respectively ... And for the first time in the history of the sport, we have 7 of the top 8 positions in the grid occupied by different teams ... phew ... That IS really amazing ...

Fingers crossed , waiting for yet another classic Monza experience ...

FORMULA 1

Hmmmm ... So this is it where it all begins ....

Formula 1 (or F1 as many call it) is one of the few things for i which i live ... Fanaticism , Mania , Craziness - such words just cant express my love for this sport; it is much more than that ...

So for all those needing a brush up about it, here's how wikipedia describes this sport :

"Formula One, abbreviated to F1, is the highest class of open wheeled auto racing defined by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motor sport's world governing body. The 'formula' in the name is a set of rules which all participants and cars must meet."

The first championship race was held in Silverstone , UK in 1950 ... (the track, by the way, still is in great shape but has been left out for the last two years from the F1 calender due its new rotation policy to spread the sport by constructing new tracks in various countries ...)

With the new inclusion of the Singapore Night Race (the first one of its kind) in the 2008 F1 calender and the ventures of building new F1 tracks in India, UAE along with China's last year's entry have been viewed as promoting the sport across Asia ...

Dr. Vijay Mallya, the Indian Industrialist, has also purchased the Spyker F1 Team (previously, Jordan F1) which is now named the Force India Team ... F1 has really spread over leaps in the past couple of years in our part of the world with such moves ...
